What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the process of planning and making my film opening I have learnt and developed my skills on various technologies.

Blogger

Before starting media studies I did not have a great deal of experience with Blogger, I had used it before but not to the extent that I have during this course. My main development whilst using Blogger was finding and adapting a theme to suit my needs. I searched on Google for free Blogger templates and found one which I loved by SimplexDesign. After I copied the html design for the Blog onto my Blogger, I adapted elements of the design through html and also the design template section. This was difficult to start because I didn't really know how to use the html but after searching answers for things I wasn't sure about, I have managed to create a blog template and blogposts which I am really happy with the design of and ease to use.

Prezi
When creating presentations I didn't want to just use Powerpoint as they can sometimes be boring to sit and read through, Prezi allows you to make presentations which are a bit more interactive, they are also easier to embed presentations into. Prezi was easy to use from the offset and made smart looking presentations.

Scribd and Powerpoint
Scribd is a website that I found which allows you to upload Powerpoint presentations and make them able to embed into other websites. I made a Powerpoint for thriller genre during the planning of my film opening and wanted to find a way to embed the Powerpoint into my blogpost rather than just posting the slides as images, Scribd was a useful solution to this problem.

Photoshop and Fireworks
I used Photoshop and fireworks which are two types of photo editing software to create the logo for Film Arc Productions, my own logo initially and to play around with the sin city colour effect. I already had a good knowledge of these programmes because of using them previously within GCSE Media, Art and ICT.

Flash
I used adobe Flash to create the GIF of our logo rolling. This involved creating new frames (pages) and moving the image bit by bit to make it look as if the logo was rolling across the page. I had used Flash before within ICT to create animations.

Final Cut Express
When I did my first edit of my film opening I used the programme final cut express, I edited an entire version of the opening but unfortunately there was a fault with the school's version of the programme which meant that my opening did not save. This was disappointing as I'd learnt to do some complex things on Final Cut such as changing the white balance on certain things which made the opening look really professional. After this I had to use iMovie to edit my film opening together.

iMovie When using iMovie to edit my final edits of the film opening I found iMovie very easy to use and it had some good features. I had not used iMovie before this year so trying to figure out certain things was a challenge, but I figured it out and iMovie had almost all of the features that I had been using on Final Cut Express. My only negative point about using iMovie was that it was quite difficult to successfully layer up multiple layers of sound.

Camera/Sound recording equipment
We only used one camera when filming the opening sequence of our film which was a Nikon CoolPix P310 Digital Camera. We used this camera as it was easy to use and recorded in full HD. To record sound we used a microphone at school and voice recorders on iPod's/iPhone's for other parts. I was surprised to find that the quality of the recording on an iPhone and the microphone we were using at school were practically the same sound quality.

GarageBand
I used the Apple programme GarageBand to create the soundtrack for my opening sequence. I had not used GarageBand before the preliminary task and really figured our how to use it by putting tracks and beats together to see what worked and what didn't eventually I figured our that you could search more specifically for the type of sound you want and I made a piece of music which I believed was very fitting.

YouTube I chose to use YouTube as platform to share my final video as it is a site which I have used for years to watch things on and I knew how easy it was to use. YouTube is easily shareable so if someone liked what I created it they could share a link with a friend via many sites such as Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr. I fa person wants to give you feedback then they can comment straight on the video which allows you to get instant feedback from viewers.
