Thriller 1 – An indie thriller about
someone who is different from everyone else, aimed at a female audience.
We chose the shot to be a panning shot from right to left showing a range of Jelly Babies and then focusing on the one Jelly Baby which was different to the rest. The second shot was zooming away from the close up of the 'monstrous' Jelly Baby to show how isolated it feels from others. The next shots were over the shoulder to imitate a conversation with key characters/Jelly Babies. We next moved the 'monstrous' Jelly Baby to look as if it were moving towards the other Jelly Babies in a wide shot, we then made the Jelly Baby eat the other using a stop motion technique by taking images of the Jelly Baby disappearing. Final shot is an over the shoulder shot with the Jelly Baby in the background at a long shot falling over in slow motion, this was an effective way of creating suspense within a short amount of time.
The music I chose to include in this opening was 'Hey Now' By London Grammar, I chose this music because the vocals within it are quite eerie and London Grammar's target audience are mostly female, this would in turn appeal to the majority of our female audience. When 'Casting' our Jelly Babies we chose the red one because it was slightly squished which gave it an mysterious appearance and made it fit the character brief of being different from everyone else.
I was happy with the overall concept of our opening and the editing was smooth which made it easier to watch however, I feel that our shots of the Jelly Babies were not that well executed. I believe this is mostly due to the fact we did not have the ability to make the Jelly Babies move by themselves so hands etc. got into the shot.
